Steel Cut Oats are sometimes referred to as Scotch Oats, Irish Oats or Pin Oats.
Steel Cut Oats are made from oat kernels that have been steamed then cut and are excellent for use in such old time favourite dishes as European porridge. They are chewier than rolled oats, may take longer to cook and have the same nutritional value as rolled oats. The real value of Steel Cut Oats is more in the enhanced taste and rougher quality of the oats. The texture is firm compared to rolled oats and some people prefer them in recipes for breads, muffins, biscuits, meat loaves and patties.
